Broadening the Experience
We are fortunate to be the recipient of a grant from the Royal Female School of Art Foundation (RFSA) as part of their mission to promote the education of women and girls resident in Greater London, in particular in the subjects of Art and Design. This funding has allowed us to invest in a programme of enrichment for our students which consists of the following:-
- Art for Personal Development classes began in 2008 and through the use of different mediums ranging from pastels to collage allowed the students to explore creatively thoughts, ideas and feelings. As many had not done any form of Art since school it became a real voyage of discovery and something which many were keen to continue to develop.
- The aim of the Drama Workshops was to encourage students of all ages to learn and gain confidence about movement, emotion or action in drama, i.e. action and reaction, improvisation; to work together, trust, have fun and enjoy contact with others through a variety of activities.
- We were fortunate at the end of the Black History series of talks to be able to bring an extremely talented Gospel Singer Pearle Noire who entertained and introduced the students to the delights of Gospel Music.
- To support the curriculum and to extend their knowledge we encourage and support students to attend many activities including University Taster Days, Talks, and Theatre trips.
- Kingston Music and Arts Service recommended one of their Theatre Companies who came in and put on a performance of their pantomime for students and their children.
