2012 Development report
The 23rd of November the World Bank presented their 2012 Development report on Gender Equality at Chatman House. The report covered all areas that interconnect gender issues and development and looked at how the situation has improved over the last.
Although women’s equality has improved still they face bigger disadvantages than men, from areas such as education and employment to access to clean water. Hillcroft College attended the conference to learn more about the changes that has been achieved in education.
In this field the gap is inverse, placing men at a disadvantage, however this does not necessarily mean an improvement in access to labour market for women, and they continue to earn less than men in every country in the world. The report highlighted the urgent need to invest in women, not only for moral reasons but as key for smart economics in the current climate.
