A long time supporter of Hillcroft College, and stalwart defender of women’s education Elizabeth Monkhouse died quietly in hospital after a short illness on the 27th December 2011. Distinguished for her work in education, she was a Proust scholar who became a leading light of adult education, both as a government adviser and also as a vice president of the Workers Education Association. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her at Hillcroft.
