Hillcroft Welcomes New Principal

Michael Wheeler is the first male Principal to be appointed in the 91 years that the College has existed.  His appointment opens a new opportunity for the College to work towards equality in a new light; where men and women work side by side as allies to challenge and tackle gender inequality.  Michael has a long standing commitment to equality and diversity, and in particular to the further development of women’s education.

Michael comes to Hillcroft with extensive experience in adult and further education, having spent 14 years in Kingston Adult Education, 3 years as Head of Adult Learning Service in the London Borough of Haringey and finally 7 years as Principal of Bromley Adult Education College.

Michael is a fellow of CMI (The Chartered Management Institute) and holds an MA in Business and Public Strategy from Kingston University.  He is also chair of COSLP (The Committee of South London Principals).

Michael’s vision is to build on Hillcroft’s positive Ofsted report of 2010, leading the College towards achieving an outstanding grade in the future, raise the profile of the College locally, regionally and nationally, and develop partnerships with other organisations.  This will continue Hillcroft’s mission, and success in reaching women, overcoming their barriers to education and the promotion of a wider understanding of women’s concerns and needs, through a comprehensive approach.

Michael is passionate and determined to continue to build on Hillcroft’s past success:

‘My aim is to lead a high quality vibrant specialist college that works in partnership with other organisations and agencies to provide accessible opportunities for women to transform their lives through education and training’
